Atherton
Atherton is a small exclusive town located on the Peninsula nestled between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The Town is bordered by areas of Menlo Park, Redwood City, Woodside, and unincorporated areas of San Mateo County. There are 49 miles of roads in Atherton and approximately 2,503 households with no industry or business establishment within the town limits. Beautiful foliage, elegant gardens and heritage trees dominate this quiet small community.
Belmont
Residential Belmont rests on top its majestic hills with many unique homes boasting of breathtaking views of the bay. The town is home to Oracle World Headquarters, Oral B Laboratories, and many other sizable companies that provide a wide variety of employment.
Brisbane
Brisbane is a sma
ll town built on the San Bruno Mountain. Much of Brisbane was built before World War II devoting much of its land to industrial developments. There is a small residential population consisting of small to large homes perched on its hilltops.
Burlingame
The city of trees, boasts charming old-style neighborhoods all within an easy drive to San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco International Airport. Young professionals with families have moved in to join longtime residents, making the city one of the most desirable communities in San Mateo County. Burlingame prides itself on excellent schools, shopping and wonderful restaurants.
City of Colma
The smallest city in San Mateo County, and know world wide as a “the city of the dead” or “cemetery town”. Colma is home to nearly 1,300 residents and 1.5 million souls. Within its 2.2 mile boundaries, Colma also offers two shopping centers, Northern California’s most complete collection of car dealerships and a Bart (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Station.
Daly City
Just South of San Francisco, Daly City has become the most populous city
in San Mateo County. It has recently been recognized as an immigrant’s town and hosts a diverse population that includes the region’s largest Filipino community.
East Palo Alto
This city is possibly the next boomtown for the county. Crime is down and home prices are rising. Protected from breezes by hills, East Palo Alto is close to Dumbarton Bridge, Highway 101 and Silicon Valley.
Foster City
Located approximately 20 miles south of San Francisco, Foster City is a planned community built on the bay. Many homes overlook lagoon and waterways. The city has been carefully designed to segregate industrial, commercial, and residential area resulting in an enhanced quality of life fro residents, businesses, and visitors.
Hal Moon Bay
In the heart of the San Mateo Counts Coast side, is a unique blend of small town charm and natural beaches. Visitors flock to town on weekends to visit the spectacular shoreline for surfing, bathing, and hiking, while residents enjoy a largely rural community; in addition to growing number of commuters, Half Moon Bay is also known for its agricultural hub. On Sundays, you can enjoy the local Farmers Market.
Hil

A town of million dollar mansions prides itself on its lovely winding roads, rural atmosphere and excellent public schools. The 6-square mile town has no commercial area, no apartment buildings, no sidewalks, and no stoplights.
Menlo Park
This pleasant upscale town bordering desirable Atherton, Palo Alto and Stanford University is home of Sun Microsystems and other prominent Silicon valley Companies. The City takes great pride in its pleasant and picturesque community and fabulous downtown shopping district.
Millbrae
Located immediately west and above San Francisco airport, known as a “place in the sun” unlike some neighboring cities. The hills of Millbrae keep the town free of fog. Residential homes range from sitting on the hills with breathtaking vies, to lying in the flatlands in quaint neighborhoods. Its downtown shopping district has recently been upgrades. Millbrae has excellent transportation access and a new BART station.
Montara / Moss Beach
Two small cities side by side in an unincorporated area, just north of Half Moon Bay and governed by the San Mateo Board of Supervisors. Pretty, rustic with an artsy look. Highway 1 has prob
lems every few years when it gets washed out with heavy rains. To correct this problem, a new highway with a tunnel is currently being built. The completion date is approximately 2010.
Pacifica
On San Mateo’s north coast lies this bedroom community known for its surfing beaches, great fishing, breathtaking views and the only Taco Bell on the beach. Half of this town is dedicated to open space but only 10% is available for further development. The weather for the front of the valley is often cold and foggy. Protected by the rolling hills, the back of valley enjoys a significant warmer climate.
Portola Valley
This rural town is home to some of the most exclusive properties in San Mateo County. Known for its meandering horse trails embedded in its woodsy setting, Portola Valley is an enclave for Silicon executives.
Princeton / El Granada
These are two little towns just north of Hal Moon Bay. They are the homes to great fishing, nice restaurants and bed and breakfast places. It has a small airport to the north.
Redwood City
Located halfway between Silicon Valley’s San Jose and San Francisco, Redwood City is the oldest municipal
ity in San Mateo County. It is know for its “perfect” climate and features such landmarks as its domed courthouse, Fox Theater, and the beautiful Lanthrop House. It has recently attracted a great deal of high tech companies to its newest neighborhood, Redwood Shores.
San Bruno
Located just west often San Francisco Airport, this town is intersected by highways 101, 280, 380 and incorporates CalTrans and BART. Just west of the San Francisco Airport, many homes in this cit y share beautiful views of the San Francisco Bay, while other homes lay on the friendly neighborhood flats.
San Carlos
The “city of good living”, strikes a fine balance between the picturesque neighborhoods of its residential areas and the industrial area east of the railroad tracks. San Carlos has a quaint downtown with many fine restaurants. The community offers many youth programs and plentiful senior services.
City of San Mateo
San Mateo has something for everyone; great neighborhoods and schools, including College of San Mate, 3 libraries, 24 parks, and some of the best shopping and restaurants on the Peninsula. San Mateo is located at the mid-point of the County, offering an easy commute to bo
th San Francisco and San Jose.
South San Francisco
Also know as South City, this city is known as both a residential and an industrial city. There are two marinas at Oyster Point and it is home to the California Golf Club. The residential neighborhoods range from coastal hills to the bay.
Woodside
Woodside is a very prestigious town located in the hills above Atherton and Redwood City next to Portola Valley. The town is quietly secluded in the wooded hills where many of its lavish estates accommodate a large equestrian population. Their schools are ranked in the top 10 statewide. |
